Recycling Aluminum Can Trailer

INSTRUCTIONS & DIRECTIONS

*  Please check the trailer periodically during the month.  Although the 
realistic expectation is that the trailer will be dumped only once (near 
the end of the month), if it fills up twice in one month, please dump it 
twice.


REPEATABLE PROCEDURES

- Troop Comm Chair sends email reminder to the "can hauler" it is their 
month.

- Troop Comm Chair semi-annually inquires of troop whether any 
additional members with a trailer hitch able to haul cans.

- A Scout or extra helper is helpful to make this a quicker job.

- Remove cans by the 4th Sat of the month, earlier if full.

- Wear old clothes, shoes and bring gloves.

- Obtain the bus, trailer door and chain key(s) from Scoutmaster on 
Wednesday night.

- Obtain two (2) orange shovels from the QM room.

- Obtain the trailer ball & hitch from the bus, relock bus.

- Properly attach the hitch to the vehicle.

- Make sure all straps are tight, including a strap over the flap door.

 

IF YOU PREFER TO DUMP AT THE NEW ALBANY RECYCLING CENTER:

- Riverside Recycling, 1001 Floyd Street, 812-948-1323, is open 8:00 
a.m. to 5 p.m. (M-F) and 7:00 a.m. to noon (Saturday).

- Take I-64 West, over the bridge, and take the first New Albany exit 
(Exit 123).  Take the Elm Street exit toward Scribner Drive.  Turn right 
onto Scribner Drive.  Turn right onto W. Main Street.  Drive 
approximately one-half mile, then turn left onto W. 10th Street which 
becomes Floyd Street.  Arrive at 1001 Floyd Street, on the left just 
before Lucky Liquors. 

- Drive onto the scale on the right of the little building and tell them 
Troop 315 when asked for a name.  They will direct you to back into a 
spot to your right where the cans are dumped. 

- Follow the centerÕs directionsÑtake off the gate on the trailer, push 
out the cans, replace the gate and shovel, apply all the straps on the 
gate of the trailer, replace the lock and drive around to the other side 
of the weigh station to be weighed and get the check.

 

IF YOU PREFER TO DUMP AT RIVER METALS RECYCLING:

- Drive to River Metals Recycling at 2045 River Road, 502-585-5331.

- River Metals Recycling is open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (M-F) and 8:00 a.m. 
to noon (Saturday).

- Take I-71 S to Zorn Ave, exit and turn R, go down to River Rd and take 
a L (or just cut across St. Matthews to Zorn Avenue to River Road).

- Go to the 2nd entrance off of River Rd (turn R).

- Go all the way to the back building.

- Wait for an open bay and back in.

- Unload and start scooping.

- Go to the Office and tell them BSA TROOP 315.

- Pick up check.

 

FINISHING UP:
- Return trailer to the church, lock chain.

- Return hitch to bus, lock bus.

- Email/call the Troop Comm Chair and advise him the task is done.

- Return key(s) to SM/turn in check to Troop Treasurer or Comm Chair at 
next meeting.
 
- Pat yourself on the back for helping the TroopÕs fund raising efforts.
